Trends We Are Noticing November 2016

This is our monthly update to our extended Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) family;
a more focused lens directed at what is topical and trending.

Each month I ask a group made up of designers, educators, authors and others to share their observations of trends that relate to our industry. I assemble the content and share it via my blog and through the CHA membership email.

Here is my submission:

"Trends in fashion and jewelry influence what I think might become hot in the do-it-yourself market.  I thought I would share a few sources that keep me actively reviewing trends and thinking about how they might cross over to the DIY jewelry making world."
Carmi Cimicata
Social Media Manager for John Bead Corp. and

Of course Pantone is a major influencer with their color of the year announcements.
They also break down the seasons and show how the colors are used by many industries.

The Net-a-Porter magazine is high end but I get many ideas from their online publication.
Swarovski has an amazing Trend report you can read in their magazine, but their crystal blog provides regular trend alerts as well.

Women's Wear Daily is a subscription site, but quite a bit of it is open for reading.  Their Trends section is inspired.

Here are the trends some of my fellow designers noticed:

"Agate slices, carved faux bone feathers, and other natural elements are embellished with pave hematite crystal details.  You'll find these ornaments hanging from long strands of beads, leather and chain this fall to accessorize boho chic fashions."
Candie Cooper, Author and Designer

"I can't believe how many resin crafters have already started making holiday gifts.  No procrastination here!"
Katherine Swift, Owner, Resin Obsession, LLC

"I’m still seeing mosaics all over the place, and more and more things to color!"
Laura J Weed, Graphics Manager, Social Media Marketing Manager,
Website Administrator, Design Team Manager for Stampendous

"Patina components. Colored hematite beads - metallic AB and other special effects."
Fernando DaSilva, Creative Director & Product Development for John Bead Corp

"Metallics especially gold continue to be huge right now. Have you noticed that items are getting dipped in gold? The legs of furniture pieces, jewelry bits and stones and even wood or ceramic home decor objects dipped in gold. It's quirky but I love it!"
Kelly Panacci, Art Licensor and Founder of Kelly Panacci Inc.
